SSP / Westmont (CA) Reunion Day
On Saturday, July 24, 2010, join us on the campus of Westmont College in Santa Barbara,
for a day and evening of stimulating interaction with SSP alumni, faculty, and students. The schedule:
- 11:30 - 12:00 Park at Kerr Center, Welcome & sign-in at Clark Hall
- 12:00 - 12:45 Lunch with students in the Dining Commons of Ruth Kerr Student Center, just downhill from Clark, outdoor patio
- 1:00 - 2:00 Board of Trustees meeting, announcement of election results, Clark A Student Lounge
- 2:00 - 2:30 Walking Tour of Westmont Campus
- 3:15 - 5:15 Alumni vs. students softball game / social time, Deane Field, in the SE corner of campus, across the road from the Deane School Chapel
- 5:45 - 6:15 Reception for alumni, faculty, guests, and students, John Page Hall, north side of campus
- 6:15 - 7:00 Dinner
- 7:00 - 9:00 Trustee presentations followed by guest lecture by Dr. Michelle Khine, Prof. of Biomedical Engineering / Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at UC Irvine: "Think Big ... Then Shrink"
- 9:00 - 10:00 Visit Westmont's 24" Keck telescope (pictured above) and SSP's own two telescopes.
RSVP
If you plan to attend, RSVP online as soon as possible. An accurate advance head count is necessary to plan the meals. Families are welcome! Admission includes lunch and dinner: $30 for adults and $15 for children age 4-10. You may pay online by credit card, or by check upon arrival.
Lodging
There are many hotels in the area. For convenience and value we recommend the Coast Village Inn (800-257-5131) and the Cabrillo Inn At the Beach (800-648-6708); mention Westmont College for a discounted rate.
Getting There
Westmont College is located in the hills above Santa Barbara, at 955 La Paz Road, Santa Barbara, 93108. Maps and directions are online.
Try to arrive by about 11:30 am. Drive to the main (last) campus entrance, and turn left into campus. The first buildings on your right will be the cluster of Clark Hall dorm buildings, on your left will be a parking lot. Park in the lot (it's free) and walk across the road to Clark Hall. Look for the registration table and pick up a nametag there.
